@ClassyPenteGirl Guest Blog


For y’all who do not know anything about me I am a 16 year old Apostolic Christian. I come from a home of non-Christians. I did go to church some when I was a little girl with my neighbours. (My neighbours are like my second parents and their children are my best friends.)

Then about 4 years ago I was invited by them to go to a Youth function. I received the Holy Ghost at it. It was until almost two years later that I became more involved in church. I could feel God working in my life and I decided the next step was to give my life to Him, including dressing the part. God has really brought me a long way, and I cannot thank Him enough. Now that you have some back ground knowledge on me let us get on to the real topic!
Immodesty is a growing problem in our society. I know everyone in the Christian world hears about it daily, but it is a true problem. A common excuse made is that it is “too hard” to dress modest. That it is too hard to fit in when you dress like that. I feel that the cause of these excuses may be insecurities, and society’s voice. Society’s voice tends to overpower the voice of the Bible. Society is what we are taught to live and breathe. Society is everywhere and it is trying to push the values of the Bible out. We need to listen and learn the truth of the Bible though.


The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 -20 says "What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost...For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." What exactly is the price that we were bought by? That price is the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus died for you and me. He endured all the pain so that we could live.
Can we really say that it is too hard to dress in modest apparel? Be honest with for a minute while we recap. We use excuses, society’s voice and insecurities. Then the King of kings died for us, and our lives. He was willing to give up His life for us, so why is it so hard for us to give up skinny jeans and miniskirts for Him? God does ask much of us. He asks us to live in a Godly manner. This includes acting and dressing properly, plus living by the commandments of the Bible.
Matthew 5:28 says "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Men are encouraged to look upon a woman like this when they dress in an ungodly manner.
The video link in the following is about bikinis but the same goes for revealing clothing. In this video she is talking about how the amount of clothing a woman is or is not wearing affects how men view her. Not how they view her as attractive but what is really happening to their mind. Now that you have watched that section you understand what I mean. I truly believe that modesty is as important as any other commandment given by God. It is important to Holiness and Godliness. Jesus would not have talked about it if He did not view it as important. I know a lot of people see modesty as "old lady" fashion but it is not. Modesty is defined as “regard for decency of behaviour, speech, dress, etc.” (Thank you dictionary.com). Modesty can be modern and trendy. A regularly used excuse that is made about modesty is that it will make you not fit in. As Christians we were born to stand out. But, from personal experience I can say that modesty will not take true friends out of your life. They will notice but the will learn to accept and maybe even love it.


The whole skirt wearing ordeal that is a big thing people see when it comes to modesty. I feel like it is because younger Christians do not understand where it is coming from. I feel like that because I was like this once to. I promise you it is not there to make your life difficult, but to help with your Holiness.
Deuteronomy 22:5 says “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.” Skirts are brought into this because pants are considered to be men’s because they were invented for men. They were historically only worn by men. The Bible teaches about the separation between the sexes. There is little to no distinction between the two genders pants. Pants are [essentially] seen as unisex, so they are not providing an adequate separation between the sexes.
I know that everyone has their own opinion on this topic, and this is mine. But I really did see it fit that I talked honestly about modesty for this. I know that it is coming less common to see modesty and this is the time when it needs to be growing. Modesty I see as of great importance to Holiness. I believe that we can all achieve it, while feeling great about it too! :)
